What the sign says

The barred disc ends the general 50 km/h regime. Beyond it, the general limit outside built-up areas — 80 km/h — applies.

The exam trap

It stands from the point where neither side of the road is compactly built up any more. On minor secondary roads, neither sign is needed at all.
