Warning signs

White triangle with a red border. It announces a hazard but imposes nothing by itself: adapting your speed and road position is up to you.

Priority signs

They say who goes first. Without them, priority from the right applies — including on a square or a car park.

Regulatory signs

Round. They order or forbid, and ignoring them is punishable. A red rim forbids, a blue field commands.

Information signs

Blue rectangles. They inform — but some also trigger rules: the motorway brings its speed limit, its ban on turning round and its minimum age.

The signs are the official depictions by the Federal Roads Office, from the annexes of the Signalling Ordinance (SR 741.21): official works, unprotected under Art. 5 of the Copyright Act. The explanations, by contrast, are written from federal law — never taken from a third-party catalogue. The catalogue grows family by family.
